Yes, I fondly remember those games and others. I was underage, though, for part of that period.

Could Leisure Suit Larry also be group among the category?

Sure, I think LSL qualified. At the time anything with even suggested nudity was crazy on computers.

Wonder why the market went away. While it would never work on XBOX and other consoles as it likely violates ratings code, I don't believe the same applies to selling adult games on PC.

Visual novel/dating sim games are still popular in Japan.

The closest thing to what you're talking about right now is a game called HuniePop. Think of it as Bejweled meets dating sim. It's actually pretty fun and requires strategy to play effectively. There's an uncensored version with X-rated artwork available from the developer directly. A censored build that still has topless nudity is available from Steam, and the developer provided instructions on how to unlock the uncensored content for that version.

I loved Leisure Suit Larry. So much fun! Same era when I had replaced all my Mac system sounds with fun sounds like Oscar singing "I LOVE trash" whenever I emptied my trash and Terminator saying "Your clothes, give them to me now!" for an error. Good times with early Macs Who remembers adult games back in the day? (5)

The latest GTA V gets pretty steamy, you can see people doing it doggystyle in their backyard for a few seconds. But no, not X-rated. I blame piracy for the lack of adult content. A kid steals a game they shouldn't have access to, parents groups sue the company, no more adult games.

Well, if you ever played The Sims (1, 2, 3, 4, etc), then you know that there are already mods and hacks that will "pornify" the game. There are also various nude hacks, homosexual mods (allowing same-sex relationships and marriage, etc) and other things that will make the vanilla game more interesting.

Well there are two real video game markets, and the big one is obviously console and games for the Atari (like Custer’s Revenge) virtually guaranteed that no mainstream company would risk the backlash from woman’s groups or family groups. That goes double once Nintendo started the really big trend of locking down the console (in most part to stop out of control 3rd parties that was a big cause of the ’83 crash). Nintendo was really successful at making consoles in general be seen as for kids. After that, forget it.

As far as PC gaming goes, the market sorta fizzled out since the games were never made really well (most publishers to avoid backlash avoided overt adult titles so they were always compromised) and then there was the distribution of said game. Most companies don’t like having the view of “porn distributor” and will not sell the game. Limit distribution, and the market to make them in the first place is going to be real small.

The rating systems nowadays makes major adult games a hard thing since you are going to be limited on what you do and unless you direct sell, you are at the whim of distributors that can destroy any chance of a success. It’s too risky.

Aaaah, the good ole' days of Extensions. I remember having at least 3 lines worth of them to watch load on startup.

For a time my Mac would have Homer saying "Mmmmm, burger...." when you inserted a disk and a puking sound when you ejected it.

Remember how cool it was to have the extension that made the eyeballs follow your mouse from the top bar?

Yeah, that's something I miss about OS7 to 9. I had a bunch of sound clips play during various actions. On startup, I had clips from the movie, War Games, saying, "Greetings Professor Falkan. Shall we play a game?" And emptying the trash, from Jurassic Park: "now that's a big pile of s*it!" And quotes from Data, from Star Trek TNG as various error messages.

Given how juvenile I was, the "adult" games were especially appealing to me.

Me too but those days are over now.

Maybe I can find Virtual Valerie someplace and try to remember what it was like once upon a time.

Pretty sure vanilla sims has allowed that at least since 2.

EDIT: Always allowed.

A same-sex relationship is a potential form of relationship in The Sims series. Players have been able to create same-sex relationships since the original game

Leather Goddesses of Phobos. I was fascinated by that name as a sweaty young boy, and the way it was referenced with a nudge and a wink in the gaming magazines. Somehow, I've never actually seen or played it. By the time I found out it was a text adventure, games like Descent were being released, and online MUDS (still text based) were offering me more interaction than text adventures.

I suppose I played World of Warcraft's great-great-great granddaddy.
