8 years later, still a good purchase

I bought it at launch and in these 8 years, it has not given me a single problem. Where it matters, which are the games, it has an impressive catalog. It has exclusives (some temporary and others that are released on PC, of course) that alone more than justify its purchase (God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Gran Turismo, Bloodborne, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc...) and of course, the most important 'third parties' (COD, Assassins, FIFA, etc.). In addition, the PSVR works perfectly with this model (the 'fat' one), making it a more affordable gateway to VR than what it would be on PC. The only criticisms I can give are that it is a bit noisy, especially if you have it very close or play without headphones, and that the quality of the rubber on the controllers is quite low, but that is easily fixed by buying very cheap replacements or grips that cover them. It's true that the PS5 is backwards compatible, and if you have the money, it might be a better purchase, but if you don't want or can't spend that much, and it's your first console, it's impossible for it to disappoint you.

Pros

  • Reliable
  • Great catalog of exclusives
  • Great catalog in general
  • Gateway to VR

Cons

  • Mediocre controller quality
  • Loud
