WOODBRIDGE, VA - A confrontation at Potomac Mills Mall led to the arrest of 22-year-old David Joshua Barnes from Reston on charges of assaulting law enforcement officers. The incident occurred on June 22 at approximately 11:47 AM near the mall's food court area.

Police were called to the scene to address reports of an intoxicated individual causing disturbances. Barnes was initially detained without incident by the officers. However, as they escorted him from the premises, he began to resist actively by spitting and kicking at the officers involved. Despite his aggressive behavior, Barnes was eventually secured and placed in a police vehicle without further complications.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the altercation. Barnes has been charged with three counts of assault & battery on a law enforcement officer, one count of obstruction of justice, and one count of public intoxication. He is currently being held without bond, awaiting a court date to face these charges.

MASSENA, NY - The New York State Police from the SP Massena barracks are calling for community assistance in tracking down a stolen mini excavator. The theft was reported at 1415 State Route 131 in Massena, where police were called to investigate a burglary on the morning of June 13, 2024.

The stolen vehicle, a 2023 Bobcat E35i mini excavator, is a rental from HercRentals. It was last seen at the location from where it was stolen between 3:00 PM on June 12 and 7:30 AM on June 13.

State Police are urging residents and businesses in the area to review their security camera footage for any unusual activity that may help in locating the stolen excavator. Gaithersburg, Md.—The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) has arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting on a Metrobus that occurred in February 2023.

On February 17, 2023, officers patrolling the Vista at White Oak apartments found a Metrobus pulled over on Lockwood Drive. Upon stopping to assist, they discovered that a shooting had taken place. Officers found 19-year-old Justice T’Ziyan Elliot injured and began performing life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, Elliot died at the scene.

Detectives identified 22-year-old Trevon Hatcherson-Ross of Washington, D.C., as a suspect during the investigation. Hatcherson-Ross was charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and reckless endangerment-related charges after an arrest warrant was obtained.

On Friday, June 14, Hatcherson-Ross was extradited from a detention center in Washington, D.C., to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is being held without bond.

MANASSAS, VA - Police are investigating a residential burglary at the Assembly Manassas Apartments, which occurred on June 21 at approximately 5:51 PM. The apartment is located in the 10400 block of Butterfield Street.

According to the investigation, the burglar entered through an unsecured front door, taking advantage of the lack of forced entry to access the residence quietly. The residents reported that jewelry had been stolen during the incident.

Authorities are conducting further inquiries and urge anyone with information or who may have noticed suspicious activities in the area around the time of the burglary to contact the police. The investigation is ongoing, with officers working to retrieve the missing items and identify those responsible for the burglary.

BALTIMORE, MD - The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General has released its comprehensive reports on a fatal crash involving police in Morningside, Prince George’s County, which occurred on August 13, 2023.

On that day, at about 1:40 PM, Prince George’s County Public Safety Communications was alerted about a black BMW allegedly involved in a shooting, following the caller and discharging firearms. Morningside Police Officer Stephen Huddleston subsequently located the vehicle on Suitland Road. The BMW, driven by Dashawn Redding, lost control as it neared the intersection with Allentown Road, colliding with a silver Ford Taurus in a turning lane.

The crash resulted in critical injuries for Rogelio Sanchez Gomez, the driver of the Ford Taurus, who succumbed to his injuries two days post-collision. The two juveniles in the Taurus sustained minor injuries and were later discharged from the hospital. A loaded handgun was found in the BMW, and Redding was arrested following a brief on-foot pursuit.

The IID submitted an interim report on September 26, 2023, and a supplemental report on January 23, 2024, after receiving the autopsy and crash report results, concluding the investigation. On June 7, 2024, the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office informed the IID that they would not pursue prosecution in this case. This decision marks the end of the legal process related to the tragic events of last August.
