  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Likely headed to injured list

    Rotowire

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said in an interview Tuesday that Mize (hamstring) is a likely candidate to be placed on the 15-day injured list, Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio reports.

Mize had to depart Sunday's start against the Angels with a left hamstring issue. While the initial hope was that he was merely dealing with a cramp, Hinch said Tuesday that it's more serious than that. Mize would be held out at least through the All-Star break if he is indeed placed on the IL. Matt Manning is a likely candidate to take Mize's spot in the Tigers' rotation.

  • Tigers' Tyler Holton: Earns second save

    Rotowire

Holton struck out the only batter he faced and earned a save over the Angels on Sunday.

Holton entered a 7-6 game after Shelby Miller was hammered for five runs in the ninth inning. Holton halted the comeback attempt and earned his first save since May 25. Jason Foley likely wasn't available after recording four outs Saturday, and the team likely didn't want to rush him out of the bullpen after Miller's ninth-inning collapse. Holton has a 4.04 ERA with a 34:9 K:BB through 42.1 frames.

  • Tigers' Carson Kelly: Tees off Sunday

    Rotowire

Kelly went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Angels.

Kelly provided an offensive jolt with his fifth home run of the year from the fifth spot in the lineup, one spot behind fellow catcher Jake Rogers, who served as the DH. The two players continue to split time behind the plate, which limits the fantasy upside of both of them. Kelly has been the more effective offensive player overall, however, as he has a .711 OPS compared to a .609 mark for Rogers.

  • Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Leads charge Sunday

    Rotowire

Malloy went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Angels.

Malloy's blast in the fourth inning, his third of the season, extended the Detroit lead to 4-0. The rookie has gotten off to a sluggish start in the majors, as he's still batting only .175 with a 38 percent strikeout rate after Sunday. Despite the struggles, Malloy has good power potential, and his prospect pedigree suggests that he'll figure it out at some point. However, fantasy managers may have to remain patient in the short term.

  • Tigers' Shelby Miller: Implodes again Sunday

    Rotowire

Miller allowed five runs on three hits and a walk while retiring just two batters in relief during Sunday's 7-6 win over the Angels.

Miller came on in the bottom of the ninth inning with the Tigers up 7-1 but he nearly blew the comfortable lead. The righty hit a batter and gave up a walk before allowing a three-run bomb to Zach Neto. A few batters later, Miller served up a two-run shot to Jo Adell before getting the hook with two outs. Over his last two outings, the veteran reliever has allowed eight earned runs in just 1.2 innings, which has pushed his ERA up to an unsightly 6.23. Miller started the season strong, but he's run into a rough patch and is hard to trust at this point.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Set to undergo additional imaging

    Rotowire

Mize (leg) will undergo further tests on his left leg, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

After exiting Sunday's win over the Angels in the bottom of the sixth inning with a left leg injury, Mize will see what the extent of the damage is. In regard to if it was a cramp or not, the right hander said "that's what it felt like" and that he and the team will "see how the next couple of days play out." The severity of his injury will be determined once Mize receives the results of the imaging.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Exits with apparent leg injury

    Rotowire

Mize left Sunday's outing against the Angels in the bottom of the sixth inning with an apparent leg injury, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Mize was in the midst of one of his best starts of the season, striking out two while allowing five baserunners over 5.1 scoreless innings before "cramping up" and grabbing at the back of his left leg, according to McCosky. More information on Mize's status will likely come later Sunday or Monday, but if his departure ultimately does end up being the result of cramping, there's won't be much concern for his availability moving forward.

  • Tigers' Alex Lange: Officially shut down for season

    Rotowire

Triple-A Toledo placed Lange (lat) on its full-season injured list Friday.

The transaction confirms that the surgery Lange underwent this past week to address a right lat avulsion was indeed season-ending. Though the right-handed reliever is currently on the minor-league IL, the Tigers could recall him and place him on the major-league 60-day IL if the team needs to open up a spot on the 40-man roster at any point. Per Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press, Lange is optimistic that he'll be back to full health for the start of spring training in 2025.

  • Tigers' Eddys Leonard: Goes back on IL

    Rotowire

Triple-A Toledo placed Leonard on its 7-day injured list Wednesday with an unspecified injury.

Leonard was placed on Toledo's IL in early April with an oblique strain and missed just under two months of action before returning to the Triple-A lineup June 4. However, he appeared in just 16 games for Toledo before getting shut down again with a new injury. Leonard -- who possesses a spot on the Tigers' 40-man roster -- is without a clear timeline for a return from the IL.

  • Tigers' Javier Baez: On cusp of rehab assignment

    Rotowire

Baez (back) is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Joe Reedy of the Associated Press reports.

Manager A.J. Hinch had previously said June 25 that Baez wasn't on track to return from the 10-day injured list before the Tigers' ongoing road trip concludes July 7, but the veteran shortstop looks like he could be an option to play during the final week before the All-Star break. The Tigers will likely wait and see how Baez responds to at least a few rehab games with Toledo this week before determining his next steps. Baez had produced a career-worst .456 OPS over 196 plate appearances before being placed on the IL on June 11 with lumbar spine inflammation.

  • Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Hitting bench Sunday

    Rotowire

McKinstry is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

With southpaw Tyler Anderson on the hill for the Angels, the lefty-hitting McKinstry will duck out of the lineup. Ryan Kreidler will step in for McKinstry at shortstop.

  • Tigers' Colt Keith: On bench against lefty

    Rotowire

Keith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

Keith has gone 2-for-20 over his past five games and will sit Sunday as lefty Tyler Anderson takes the mound for the Halos. Andy Ibanez will man the keystone and bat leadoff in the series finale.

  • Tigers' Matt Vierling: Scratched with foot soreness

    Rotowire

Vierling was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels due to left foot soreness.

Vierling suffered the injury during Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Angels, when he fouled a pitch off his foot in the top of the 10th. Preliminary X-rays came back clean, but the 27-year-old wasn't moving well in pregame workouts Sunday, per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. Vierling should be considered day-to-day and will have Monday's team off day to aid in his recovery ahead of Tuesday's series opener in Minnesota.

  • Tigers' Jake Rogers: Goes deep in loss

    Rotowire

Rogers went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and three total RBI in Saturday's 6-5, 10-inning loss to the Angels.

Rogers delivered a key blast in the top of the sixth inning to put the Tigers up 5-2, but Los Angeles scored the final four runs of the contest to spoil his effort. The Detroit backstop is now up to six long balls this season in 51 games, which is a step back from last year's pace, when he swatted a career-high 21 homers in 107 contests. Rogers is still capable of getting hot quickly, though he's splitting time behind the plate with Carson Kelly, which impacts either player's ability to sustain much momentum.

  • Tigers' Reese Olson: Pitches well in no-decision

    Rotowire

Olson allowed two runs on five hits across six innings and did not factor into the decision in Saturday's contest against the Angels. He walked three and struck out nine.

The nine strikeouts are a new season high, though the three walks also matched a season high, as Olson was all over the place Saturday. He still managed a solid outing overall despite missing out on his third win of the year. The righty's 2-8 record isn't fitting of his 3.32 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 89.1 innings this season. Olson will look for a little better luck and some more run support in his next scheduled start, which is penciled in for Friday against the Reds.
